Small groups provide a place to learn more about the Bible and its practical application in our lives. In these groups we can ask those “dumb” questions and discuss issues or insights in a way that just is not possible in a church service.
Small groups are often small in number so they are particularly suited to people who are new in their faith or are still discovering, exploring and growing (which is all of us really).
Often the closest relationships we develop at Church are through Small groups. This is because there is time to get to know one another and understand one another’s lives and journeys. These small groups can provide wonderful support through encouragement and practical problem solving. Through our group friendships we discover that we are not alone in our times of difficulties or triumphs.
Small groups are a wonderful place to see how powerful prayer can be. It is also a safe place to try praying aloud if this is something you are not comfortable with (and many people are not). There is never any pressure to join in, but as you feel more confident within your group you may find it is something that comes to you.
Difficult times come to us all (yes, even Christians). A group can make a significant difference to us in those times of difficulty, stress or crisis because they not only to provide practical support but love, encouragement and security. Knowing others are caring and praying for you and your circumstance can help enormously.
Sharing our trials can be a challenge in itself, but when we do, we not only help with our own healing but show others how to live through circumstances they too may encounter. Often we see how much people have grown through such times, especially when well supported. Times with your Small group become welcome “pressure-free” breaks from the day-to-day.
The traditional model of there being one person to “minister” to a congregation’s needs is old-fashioned and an impossible task. We are called upon to minister to one another and the first incarnations of churches in the New Testament are in people’s homes – yes, they had small groups too!
In a similar way it doesn't take a whole church to make a difference within our community. Small groups can mobilise quickly and efficiently within our community to build relationships, provide care and outreach.
Church is not a building; and worship is not something that only takes place in that building. Anytime we focus on God, we worship Him – no matter where we are.
Let us know if you would like to be part of a Small Group - no matter where you are in your journey of faith and even if you do not attend Camden Baptist Church, we can find a group to suit you – smallgroups@camdenbaptist.org.au
